26 november 2018
During 4 days the efficient practices and successful advocacy campaigns in the healthcare field were presented for participants.
Supported by International Renaissance Foundation, the autumn Budget Advocacy School for patient organizations started on November, 20 in Kyiv. Representatives of charitable foundations and public organizations, who are making a lot of efforts to support people with oncological, orphan and infectious diseases, took part in it.
“The International Renaissance Foundation has been supporting the development of the patient movement for many years. The series of budget advocacy schools was founded as a general tool for various groups, in particular patient groups, with the aim of advocating for the allocation of budget funds, both for treatment and for other services related to medicine. At this training you can hear the most important thing – personal success stories. School experts tell how to combine all stages of the advocacy campaign step by step”, – said Victoria Tymoshevska, director of the Public Health program in the International Renaissance Foundation.
For each group of participants, the complex of lectures and practical exercises of Budget Advocacy School is individual and is created for the needs of the community.
“Like many other patient organizations, our initial goal is to help friends and relatives who have experienced serious illnesses, in particular breast cancer. In Budget Advocacy School I am very interested in the possibility of financing our organization’s activities through local budget programs, as well as monitoring and communication tools with the authorities”, – noted Olga Feschenko, BAS participant.
In addition to universal lectures on budget advocacy, media campaigns, analytical research and information design, the experts presented exclusive ones: successful experience in advocacy of budget funds for adult patients with JRA (juvenile rheumatoid arthritis), as well as advocacy cases in the field of medicine procurement.
“The idea of creating of Budget Advocacy School came about 4 years ago. During this time we held a lot of training in Ukraine, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Moldova and Belarus. We were able to collect the experience of successful campaigns and form universal algorithms that have proven their efficiency not only in Ukraine, but also in the regions of Eastern Europe and Central Asia”, – added Maxim Demchenko, a leading BAS expert on budget advocacy.
